Origin of the Third World of the Non-aligned Bloc- Yogoslovia was a member of the Socialist bloc. But later she come out of this bloc. After this Marshall Tito, the then President of Yogoslovia, General Abdel Nasser, the then President of the United Arab republic (UAR), as Egypt was then called, and Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India, met together in 1961 and formed the Non-aligned Summit Conference was held in September 1961 in Belgrade, capital of Yogoslovia. Twentyfive Heads of state participated in the Conference. It was announced in this Conference that world peace was being disturbed by violence in Asia, Africa and Latin America. In this complicated situation, there was chance of another world war due to the rivalry of the two power blocs. It was held in that Conference that should be an end of colonial rule in those three continents. There was also an appeal to the two power blocs to meet together to discuss meas- ures for disarmament and aviod the possible war. In this way they should make ceaseless efforts to ensure peace in the whole world.
Effect of the movement- The number states of the Non- aligned bloc has gradually increased. There have been united efforts for its onward progress. Many countries have since been freed from colonial rule and have joined this movement. The number of member States is now one hundred and two.
